I am closing in on 50 books copy-edited, ranging from histories, biographies, memoirs, and novels to books on architecture, economics, investing, and tech.
I am an inveterate fact-checker, and by no means am I a mechanical editor. My first-time clients always get more than they expected.
Publishers:
- If you want a truly versatile copy-editor who can handle nonfiction (technical or non-technical), memoirs, and novels, we need to talk.
Authors:
- If you have a manuscript ready for editing:
-
Tell me about it. How many words? What is it about? Where are you at in the process of publishing your book?
-
Are you looking for a developmental editor (focusing on big-picture story elements: structure, characters, language, dialogue, narrative)? Do you require line editing or copy-editing? Or does your manuscript need proofreading before it is published? In my experience, most manuscripts need a combination of all of the above, and I can provide that input.
- Send me the manuscript, or a representative chapter. This will allow me to assess the level of work required and provide a suitable price.
- Based on our discussion and my assessment of the writing, I will send you a fee proposal.
- If you accept my fee offer, I will commence work to an agreed time frame.
- The deliverable will be a Word document with corrections, suggestions, explanations, and editorial comments inserted via tracked changes and margin comments.
- I will send an invoice shortly after completing my work, or as otherwise agreed during our negotiation.
